Charm (Stories on a Theme – “Magic”)

“Hey,”

As soon as she said it, Tyane cringed inside. How could she start the conversation of like that?

Just breathe, stay calm, Tyane thought. It was stupid, she was the advisor to the Queen, and yet she could barely make out words around her crush?

To be fair on herself, Eserald Te’va was breathtaking. She was the embodiment of adventurer and mage, the woman who had defeated the Gaven’s Cave monsters and brought back it’s head for their Queen. She was the woman who had called down lightning when the enemy ships had tried to battle their way into the harbour. She was the woman who dressed in ridiculous leather jackets and wore knives on her legs with her hair plaited back.

And she was standing in front of Tyane, hand held out for Tyane to take.

“Hey,” Eserald replied, smiling at Tyane. Tyane felt her heart skip a beat as she took Eserald’s hand in her own.

Tyane tried to make words come out of her mouth, but she struggled to form words. This was Eserald and Eserald was standing next to her and holding her hand and-

“Come on,” Eserald said, pulling on Tyane’s arm, “let’s go get a drink.”
