100 Words – Disappointment

[100 Words is a story in 100 words or less, based off the word in the title.]

Not frustration or hatred, not even sadness.

It is the loss of an expectation, the loss of a hope, that crushes the happier part of your soul. It’s the point that you realise that the world is not perfect, that there is no design.

There is sometimes no reason for what happens, or why you are the one who hurts. There is just the resignation that this is the way it is. It’s not ideal, it’s not what you wished for, but you can’t change it.

You’re stuck with reality, and you just have to make the best of it.

But that doesn’t mean you have to be happy about it.
